Quran Compass ("the App") is a free Islamic companion app providing the Qur'an with translations, hadith collections, duas, prayer times, Islamic calculators, a mosque & halal-restaurant finder, an Islamic Q&A / fatwa library, Tamil lectures and articles, and learning tools. This policy explains what data the App uses and why.
We do not require an account, we do not show ads, and we do not embed any third-party advertising or analytics/tracking SDKs. The App is not designed to profile you or to track you across other apps or websites.
The following are saved locally on your device only (in browser/local storage) and are not transmitted to us. They never leave your device except when you yourself uninstall or clear app data:
We do not operate user accounts and we keep no copy of the above on any server.
With your permission, the App uses your location to provide location-dependent features: accurate prayer times and finding nearby mosques and halal restaurants. Prayer times themselves are calculated on your device.
To return results, your coordinates (or IP) are sent to the third-party services listed in Section 6 (for example, a map data provider to list nearby mosques). We do not retain your location history.
When you ask a question, the App first searches its own Qur'an, hadith, Q&A and article content on your device; nothing is sent anywhere for that. Only if you then tap "Get an AI answer" is the text of your question sent to our server (a Cloudflare Worker that we operate). There it is used to find matching passages in our library of Islamic articles — processed on Cloudflare's servers, including Cloudflare Workers AI to understand its meaning and, for non-Tamil questions, to translate it into Tamil — and the question, with those passages and the matching content from the App, is sent to an AI provider, Google (Gemini) or Groq, to generate an answer. Search results are kept in our server's cache for up to one day so the same question is answered faster; they are not linked to you. Please avoid including personal or sensitive information in questions. Free AI services may use submitted text to improve their models under their own terms (see Section 6).
To keep the free service fair, our server counts AI questions per day. It does this with a one-way hash of your IP address combined with the date — the IP address itself is not stored — and these counters are deleted automatically after about 25 hours. Questions and answers are not stored on our server. Answers you receive are kept on your device for up to 30 days so that asking again is instant.
The App fetches data from the following services. When contacted, each may receive your IP address and, where relevant, your location coordinates or your query, under their own privacy policies:
| Service | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare (our Worker at qc-proxy.qc-proxy.workers.dev) | Our own server: relays Ask AI questions, enforces daily limits (hashed IP, deleted after ~25 hours), and serves articles and their pictures |
| Google (Gemini API) | Generates Ask AI answers (receives your question and matching App content, via our server) |
| Groq | Back-up provider for Ask AI answers (same as above) |
| ipapi.co, ipinfo.io | Approximate city/timezone from IP (fallback location) |
| timeapi.io | Timezone from coordinates |
| OpenStreetMap — Overpass API, Nominatim, Photon (komoot) | Map data, geocoding, and nearby mosque / halal-restaurant search |
| AlQuran.cloud, Quran.com, EveryAyah, cdn.islamic.network | Qur'an text, translations, and recitation audio |
| gold-api.com, open.er-api.com | Silver price and exchange rates for the Zakat calculator |
| Google Fonts, jsDelivr, unpkg, Google Input Tools | Fonts, libraries, and transliteration input |
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. Relevant policies: Cloudflare · Google (including the Gemini API terms) · Groq · OpenStreetMap Foundation.
If you enable prayer-time reminders, notifications are scheduled and shown locally on your device. No notification data is sent to us.
The App is a general-audience Islamic reference app and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We do not run accounts and do not store your personal data on our servers. The only data our server keeps about usage is the daily Ask AI counter described in Section 4 — a one-way hash, deleted automatically after about 25 hours. Data saved on your device remains under your control and is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall the App. Network requests to the services above use secure (HTTPS) connections where supported.
We may update this policy as the App evolves. The "Last updated" date above will change accordingly, and the current version will always be available at this URL.
